On June 8, 2026, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan, Principal and Dean of SCEE, inaugurated the rain harvesting unit. The event was attended by Mr. Jawed Ali Khan, Senior Advisor at UN-Habitat, Ms. Almas Shakoor, Executive Director of Shehersaaz, and other distinguished guests. During the ceremony, Dr. Irfan highlighted the urgent need for such initiatives to ensure freshwater availability now and in the future, while also noting the water recharge units developed at NUST that actively improve the groundwater table. Mr. Jawed shared that this project will not only benefit the campus community but will also go a long way in raising awareness about rainwater harvesting among students and staff. Likewise, Ms. Almas thanked NUST for the opportunity to install the unit at SCEE to demonstrate the true potential of rainwater harvesting, and she expressed her strong desire to further extend this cooperation with the university.
