Rector NUST visit to NUST Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Plant and Integrated Constructed Wetalnds (ICW) on 6th February 2025.
Rector NUST accompanied by Principal/Dean SCEE along with other senior officers and faculty members of NUST visited the Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Plant and Integrated Constructed Wetland (ICW) on 6th February 2025. Dr Sher Jamal Khan, Professor of SCEE (IESE) made an introductory presentation about the two treatment facilities at NUST to the Rector NUST and esteemed officers and faculty members.
He highlighted the importance of the two treatment systems where MBR is a modern and mechanized treatment system capable of recycling wastewater utilizing very small footprints and ICW is a nature-based solution capable of treating wastewater utilizing negligible energy. The water treated from both facilities is recycled using tankers and reused for horticulture and landscaping requirements at NUST.
Rector NUST emphasized that both the plants must be regularly maintained and one-time expenditure required may also be provided to make them fully functional. Dr Hamza Farooq Gabriel elaborated the components of ICW. At the end, Rector NUST very much appreciated the efforts of the Principal Investigators, support staff of MBR plant, and sanitary works of MBR and ICW. He also announced Rs. 10,000/- reward to each of the sanitary workers.
